The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), established in 1954, serves as both a technical authority and a trade association within the precast/prestressed concrete structures industry. As a technical institute, PCI is responsible for developing, maintaining, and sharing the Body of Knowledge related to the design, fabrication, and erection of precast concrete systems. This includes conducting research collaborations with universities and research laboratories nationwide, publishing a comprehensive range of technical resources such as design manuals, state-of-the-art reports, and periodicals, as well as certifying companies and individuals involved in manufacturing and installation processes. Additionally, PCI educates industry professionals on proper specifications, design principles, fabrication techniques, and best practices for precast/prestressed concrete, while actively participating in code advocacy efforts to support industry standards.

Beyond its technical role, PCI functions as an industry trade association aimed at advancing the interests of its members. This encompasses promoting the adoption of structural and architectural precast concrete solutions across diverse applications in partnership with eleven regional affiliates throughout the United States. The organization also develops safety manuals and educational materials, advocates on regulatory and legislative fronts, and facilitates industry engagement through meetings, networking events, awards programs, and other initiatives.
